History

The "long façade farm" which houses our inn, supposedly dates back to the year 1850. The convent was built next to the farm in 1903. The farm originally accommodated cattle, such as pigs, horses and cows. It also had a living area for the farmers. The shed was later used as a machine shed and the missionaries? holiday guests would sleep in the living area.

However, through the years the building dilapidated and no longer met all the demands. For example, the living area deteriorated and the machines got to big to be kept in the shed. In 2005, the idea arose to convert the long façade farm into an inn and start receiving guests. Thusly, the building got back its original function and also, this interpretation fits hostess Christa?s entrepreneurial spirit like a glove. Christa already had years of experience in various hotels and restaurants.

The name "Brabantse Kluis" is one with a long history. The missionaries used to have workshop in the attic of the farm, which they named "Brabant Klause". Sr Pientia Selhorst also used to have sign on her door with "Brabantse Kluis" on it!

"Brabant", off course, is self-explanatory and "Kluis" is a Dutch synonym for the word convent.
